Pokémon Scarlet and Violeta The most adorable Pokémon has its potential roots in something horrible, at the classical Pokémon style. Last month, The Pokémon Company announced plans to launch a couple of new Pokémon games: pokémon scarlet and violeta - later in this year. So far, everything we know is that the region where games are developed is inspired by the Iberian Peninsula, the European region where Spain and Portugal are, and the initial Pokémon of the new region. While the new sprigatito Pokémon and Quaxly have quite obvious inspirations (sprigatito is a cat... with leaves! Quaxly is a duck... In the water!), The Fuecoco Fire Pokémon was a bit more hazy.
The name of Fuecoco is an acronym of "fire", the Spanish word for fire, and "coconut" and is described as a crocodile of fire. The use of "coconut" in the name of Fuacoco seems confusing at first, until you go through a little more in Spanish and Portuguese folklore. Coconut is actually the name of a common monster in Spanish and Portuguese folklore that is considered a kind of coconut. While coconut (also known as Cucuy) has different descriptions and potential origins, a general common feature is that Coco likes to eat children who behave badly.
Although there is no consensus on the aspect of coconut (varies according to local tradition), the Brazilian coconut version is called cuca and is described as a female humanoid caiman. And although the alligators and crocodiles are technically different creatures, we would not be surprised if that representation of coconut is what inspired Fuecoco in the games.
Of course, the knowledge that Fuacoco could be inspired by a children's devourer monster opens the potential line of Pokémon to more horrible possibilities. Will Sourcoco evolve to a monster type fire / ghost? Or maybe Fuacoco will be the dreadedly biped evolution and will become the female caiman monster of Brazilian folklore? There is a lot about what to speculate, but we will not know with certainty until Pokémon scarlet and violeta are launched at the end of this year.
