A new shooter is approaching and the boss is sure: There was nothing like this before

With Synced: off-planet, a new shooting game was presented in the GamesCom 2021, for the second time. nanos was able to talk to developers in advance, who said: Synced will establish a new Shooters subgenus.

During the GamesCom 2021 there was a new progress of the next Synced Shooter: Off-Planet. In a disptopic environment, humanity was overwhelmed by technology after the Nanobots connected in the network everywhere received a defective update.

The result: most of humanity died and only a few small groups of survivors are now struggling to not be annihilated completely. The highlight: You are one of these survivors with a special ability.

Infected people became a kind of cyber zombies called nanos. But you can control them with your ability. With the help of the nanos, you should help other survivors escape from the planet.

Synced: Off-Planet comes from the NEXT study, which is part of the Chinese Tencent megacorporation. We were able to talk to the creative director Clark Yang and the narrative director Kevin Shortt in advance and ask some questions.

Everything is in the mix: survival, shooter and companion.

What is synchronized: off the planet anyway? Synchronized: OFF-PLANET is played in rounds and in different modes, divided into PVE and PVP. Play from a third-person perspective, you use several weapons, gadgets and the aforementioned nanos.

The objective of the PVP rounds is to reach the ferries that lead to the survivors of the Earth to the orbit where the ark is expected. Always fight against NPC opponents, as well as against other players, alone or on teams of 3.

The new shooter uses survival elements and tactical shooters. So you can get covered, find objects in the individual items and try to survive as long as possible in PVE mode. There you will also find interesting information about the background story.

The game was announced for the first time in 2019. Since then it has been quite quiet about Synced: off-planet and many things have passed until the re-ad at the GamesCom 2021. Launch, Battle pass and beta

What is the Synced model? The shooter will get different seasons with a battle pass. So far, developers have not yet agreed if Synced will be a Buy2play or Free2Play title.

When can I play synchronized? Advanced alpha test begins on the PC on September 3, 2021. The launch is planned for early 2022, in Steam and other providers on the PC.

Interview with developers: We are defining a new subgenre

Can you give me a brief description of the game? What is the idea behind Synced?

Clark: Synced: off-planet is a multiplayer survival game in third person. In it we focus on the dynamics between the PVE and PVP elements. To make things unique and make the game more exclusive, we have a mechanics called synchronization.

During the game, you can weaken your opponents and then control them to fight by your side. You can give them orders and work with them to create a very interesting tactical gameplay.

We are defining a new subgenre called SHOOTERS BASED IN COMPANIERS, I think. There was nothing the same before. We also use this mechanics for different game modes. There are modes with a PVP approach, in which the correct choice of synchronization and tactical nans is the key to success.

But we also have PVE modes in which you work together with your teammates and fighting elbow with your colleagues to enter more in the world and survive as long as possible. In the end, defeat a boss.

Each of these games will feel completely different, but everything is based on the synchronizations and the shooting game based on peers.

Is the world connected or composed of different maps?

Clark: There are different maps and each mode will also have your own map. But all are quite large and there is a lot to discover, as well as a story for each of these places. Kevin can certainly say more.

Kevin: Safe. We are here in the near future, when the world has been excited about the new technology of the Morpheus chip. This has connected people with all available data.

The society collapsed, a world was created governed by these nanos. And there are some small groups of survivors who now struggle to escape from the nanos. The only safe place they have is the space station that we call the ark.

As a player, you are one of these survivors, but you have special skills. You can synchronize with these nanos and control them so that they can fight against other nanos. You are important to get other survivors to upload to ferries, something like the vanguard to take the survivors to the ferries and leave the planet. This is where the trip begins.

Technology is the disappearance of humanity in Synced and its future.

3 game modes, many playable characters

If you say that our job is to take people to the ferry, is that also part of the game? Protecting people in the modes? Or is it just part of the background story?

Kevin: That's more the background. Your goal is to take you and the members of your team to the ferries and assure you so that you can take people from the planet.

Clark: This is also reflected in the appearance of the game. There are several game modes dedicated to history. One of the modes is called off planet, in which the players form their own teams of three, fight with each other, use nanos for the fight and try to secure the only available shuttle.

Another way is called Shuttle Rush. It is about the points that you accumulate, and the mode has three rounds of shuttles that appear: 3 in the first round, 2 in the second and only one in the last.

So there are several ferries through which players can fight and get. But beyond that, they can also put the survivors again if they have been eliminated or have left the planet. That creates a much better dynamic when you and your team can configure the tactics and discuss when to do what.

The last game mode is more oriented to PVE. Here she collects corrupt data and learns what happened actually in the world and how she reached the point where she is now.

Are there prefabricated characters with classes? Or can I create my own characters?

Kevin: We still decided exactly how we will do it, but we definitely want you to customize your look, your clothes, your attire. We are still debating how far we will arrive here, but we want to make sure that the players can define themselves.

So, no characters or prefabricated classes, can all do everything?

Clark: Right. There are many survivors that you can use with a benefit system. That defines what are the advantages of a particular character. But players have an option here. You can use different survivors for different modes so you can take advantage of it to the maximum.

So, can I have several characters?

Clark: Yes Exactly.

And in terms of duration, how long does a match last?

Clark: Each mode has its own duration, but we will try to limit it a bit. The JCJ modes will take between 20 and 30 minutes and will be quite intense. It is very fun, but we do not want the matches to be prolonged too much.

In PVE, however, if you are really good and really take advantage of your advantages, you can take a good 40-50 minutes. However, since the mode is really difficult and challenging, wait for it to end after 20-30 minutes, depending on the player's entry.

How dynamic is the world? Is there hours of the day and climate?

CLARK: Definitely moments of the day, we are still working on the climate. As soon as the game is live, we can certainly bring interesting updates for players. In terms of dynamics: each time you enter the game, engenders in different locations.

So every time you have to plan your route exactly and think about it: How do I make this return? That creates maximum rejugability. The breeder changes in each round and the booty and the opponents are all dispersed dynamically all over the world.

So you can not say: Ah, there was this nano at the intersection, because next time it may be different.

Nanos and their skills: Teamwork will win the game at the end

Let's talk a little about the booty: Does it apply only to the respective round or every character that is developed?

Clark: We focus on the booty of the game. Everything that influences your tactics and improves your skills can be found in the game. Several weapons, traits, basic chips. With different types of chips, you can take care of the opponents and then convert them into different types of Naos.

This is important for the game: there are 4 types of nanos. Crusher, suppressor, guardian and seer. Each of these is designed for different uses, tactics and benefits.

If you find a crusher core chip, for example, you can submit a nano in the world and turn it into a crusher. Then you have a tank in front of you. The Crusher is designed for destruction and pushes enemies out of coverage.

The Crusher is already the mascot of the game.

The suppressor works differently. It is a long-range repression fire. Shoot your cannon from more than 50 meters to immobilize enemies so you can flank.

The guardians are interesting because they can create an energy shield. If you use it, the nano becomes this shield and traps bullets for you. This is very useful.

The final nano, the seer, does not hurt much, but it can scan the battlefield and give you information about where the opponents are. Imagine: I am a sniper, sitting somewhere camouflaged, waiting for the enemy and pressing the trigger. With the seer as a partner, I know where the potential threats are and that gives me an advantage.

If you then work with your teammates, for example, if you have a suppressant, that creates an interesting dynamic. You have the information where the opponents could be. Tell that to your friend and he can monitor the area with the suppressor of him. Then you can find the correct angle to shoot.

This type of teamwork will win the game at the end and create interesting scenarios. (...)

Just to understand it correctly: Nanos work as colonial objects, or do I have to touch an enemy to transform them?

Clark: You have to touch it.

Agree, and what does it do or what is it transforms depends on what active nano?

Clark: Yes Exactly.

How many points of life do you really have and you can increase them?

Clark: They are firm because the game clean is important. Everyone begins the game with the same points, since there is no real progress. That would not be fair for the novices either.

Kevin: Therefore, it is important to pick up the kit?

Clark: Right.

CLARK: We really try to add depth to the game in the combat game. There are three modes:

  • Hip fire, you do not have to point here, but spread is much higher. This is good to cover a larger area.
  • The second is over the shoulder: Here you are more precise, but you can still move with enough freedom.
  • In ADS mode you can not move so fast, but it is much more precise, for example, for distant destinations.

It is a player's decision to use and when, and I think that is quite important. Players usually talk about what way it is better in what situation. That is exactly the depth we want. Easy to learn, but if you want to dominate it will take you a while.

And if I have seen it correctly, is there active coverage? Can you block in your place?

Clark: Yes.

Progress: We give players more options, not better options

Again about the booty and progress: Is there a system of progress beyond the rounds?

Clark: Yes, but we are only giving the players more options, no better options. This means that if you play for many hours I can choose between more weapons and more aspects, but that does not mean that a new player has fewer advantages.

Every time you enter the game, you can take a main weapon. However, weapon statistics do not change. No matter how long you wear playing. It is about the appearance of some trials.

Accessories only change the performance of the weapon, not its values. (...)

How many players are there for Ronda?

Clark: Depends on the mode. The OFF PLANET mode supports up to 48 players, Shuttle Rush is limited to 36 players. PVE mode is only for 3 players in cooperative mode.

What are the equipment options in Outdoor planet mode?

Clark: You can play with two friends as a team of three or solo.

You already said it's a futuristic scenario. What kind of weapons and gadgets can we expect?

Clark: Laser weapons and things like that can come in future updates, but we want players easily understand the weapons. As a player, you should already be familiar with most weapons and we trust more in classic weapons with bullets.

But we have a very interesting gadget. Whenever you start a round, you can choose a device. Some of them are absolutely high-tech and can be used in different scenarios.

The rebooting grenade, for example, bounces and every time it bounces creates an explosion. There is even a pursuit grenade that pursues enemies as soon as you throw it. It does not hurt much, but interrupts the target.

There are also some devices that are specifically for the nanos or that are supposed to protect you. The collaboration with its Sync-nano and the use of your device creates the dynamics at the end.

Synced and Scavengers - Similar Games?

For what I heard, Synced sounds a bit like a different game since it came out recently: Scavengers. Have you already have something of them? A pretty difficult start for anticipated access Have you learned or worries that the two games are too similar?

Clark: I'm not worried at all. There are a couple of points that make it different. First, we have a unique mechanics in the main game with synchronization nans. That is why we always say that we are more a peer-based shooter.

Second, we do not have a single way, we have several, and each one of them feels completely different when you play it. And third, we tried very closely with the players, we learn a lot about that.

We listen to the players and the community, we asked them what they like or do not like it. And every time we implement something new, we make sure that the construction is better than the previous one.

I believe that this commitment to the community is the key to our success because Synced is a multiplayer game and the community is extremely important here. (...)

If you combine all that and then add the story, our package is much richer and a little more complete, so to speak. And in the end, we stand out between the crowd with this mechanics of synchronization as a shooting partner.

What engine does you really use?

Clark: unreal 4.

There were ray trace trailers a while ago, is it still compatible?

Clark: Yes, we're still working on that and NVIDIA gave us a great support for the Department of Engines. Technology always creates amazing visual effects in the game. We will continue working with them to add more features.

Will there be a German version?

Clark: Naturally! The alpha will be mainly in English, but locations will come later and German is particularly important for our audience. We have many main players in Germany and we talk to them every day.

Is there anything else you would like to highlight in particular?

Clark: What we are creating here is a new IP with a completely new gameplay, even if many games do something similar in terms of the rules of game modes. But I think our main mechanics is so unique that it did not exist before. And it really changes the dynamics of the game.

The mental process when playing Synced is completely different compared to other shooters. And that is what makes fun, combination of scenarios, the dynamics of situations and surprises make each round and each party different.

Even when we play, we never know what to expect (...) I hope that people can also enjoy it.

Kevin: Part of that is also the size of the map. It is not about small sand, but 1 km on large maps of 1 km. This offers great opportunities for various strategies.
